Wine box Say Cheese

For once no port madeira or sherry with the cheese platter, but six cheese wines jointly selected and tested by Cathy and cheese queen Betty Koster.

    1. Louis de Grenelle Vincent Edouard Poirier Brut, Loire, France, SA
    Classic sparkling with 24 months cellar aging. From Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Arbois grapes. Soft dry, lively soft and round and deliciously juicy on the palate, pear and wild peach.
    Pouring temperature: 6 -8 °C.

    Serve with: Aperitifs (as an amuse bouche a slice of baguette with slice of goat cheese) many cheeses: Pyramid Wolverlei; Duneweed; Pietra; Fiore; Kobunder goat; Wild meadow old; Lazulis; Reypenaer vsop; Nylander clove belegen

    2. Quinta do Regueiro, Alvarinho Trajadura, Paolo Rodrigues, Vinho regional do Minho, Portugal
    Irresistibly delicious "vinho verde." Pure, subtle and elegant, round broad and juicy, Alvarinho lends vibrant freshness to the gently aromatic powerful, intense Trajadura.
    Pouring temperature: 8 - 10°C.

    Serve with: A true cheese lover: Tomme de Chèvre; Swarte Toer; Saint Nectaire; Serra da Estrela; Le vrais Vaudois; Gorgonzola Dolce; Comté 18 months; Grey Dunes

    3. Vergel Rosado, Bodegas de Pinoso, Valencia, Spain
    Organic and vegan. Hand-picked grapes from non-irrigated, old vines of Monastrell (Mourvedre, the same grape as Provence rose). Made virtually without the addition of sulfur.
    Pouring temperature: 8-10 °C.

    Serve with: A real surprise with lots of cheeses : Le Cabri Ariègeois; Delice de Bourgogne; Tomme de Chèvre; Le vrais Vaudois; Comté; Wild Meadow old; Mothais sur feuille; Persillé de Malzieu; Shropshire Blue; Gorgonzola Dolce

    4. Yes! De Tinedo, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla, Spain
    Organic, PURE (no wood aging) Tempranillo from La Mancha. Harvested at night to avoid oxidation and not filtered to preserve all the flavor. Soft as velvet with something of spiciness.
    Pouring temperature: 14-16°C.

    Serve with: Spanish tapas. Delicious with many cheeses: Brie de Meaux; Lingot des Causses; Fiore; Bleu de Val d' Aillon

    5. Viognier, Yiron Vineyard, Galil Mountain winery Upper Galilee Israel
    Kosher and Kosher for Passover/ sustainable / vegan. Partially wood-fermented Viognier from slate soil at 800 mtr altitude. Mouth-filling, creamy, spicy and elegant with good tension and long "mouthwatering" finish. Hints of peach and apricot. Pouring temperature: 8-10 °C.

    Serve with: A whole range of cheeses: Brie de Meaux; Fiore; Tomme de Chèvre; Salers; Manchego; Parmigiano Reggiano; Achelse Blauwe; Chiriboga Blue; Black Betty

    6. Lieti Conversari, Manzoni, az. Agr. Pratello, IGP Garda Italy. Convincing, expressive wine from late-harvested Manzoni grapes from top winemaker Emiliano Rossi (Ca dei Frati). Partially fermented on new barriques; rest on stainless steel. Velvety mouthfilling yet fresh, ripe grapes and mango. Honey rose spices-cinnamon and nutmeg, tobacco, minerals.Pouring temperature: 8-10 °C.
