Mottura Negroamaro del Salento 'Rosone' 2021

Rosone is made from the negroamaro grape, a variety grown in southern Puglia since the 6th century BC. The color is intense red with garnet reflections. It is a powerful wine full of jammy fruit with typical hints of the Mediterranean terroir and tertiary notes of oak barrels of vanilla and clove. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, spicy and has a soft and persistent finish.
The negroamaro grapes come from the north of the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento. The terroir consists of calcareous clay. Winters here are moderate and springs and summers hot and very dry. The grapes are strictly selected and come from low-yielding vineyards. Some of the grapes are crushed at the plant for the production of Rosone, undergoing slight drying. This allows the aromas to be concentrated before harvesting due to the resulting water loss of about 20 to 30%. Harvesting is followed by traditional maceration for 10 to 12 days and fermentation under controlled temperatures followed by malolactic fermentation. Part of the wine then matures for 8-10 months in French oak barrels. Finally, the wine rests for another 2-3 months in bottle.
  • About Mottura

It was 1927 when Pasquale Mottura looked out over the vast vineyards he had established over the years, hectare after hectare. For more than 80 years ( four generations), Pasquale's love of the land and care for his vineyards was passed down as a precious legacy from father to son. Mottura is now a leading maker of quality wines in the Salento and in Italy. Respect for tradition is combined here with technological innovation.

To further improve quality, winemaker Emiliano Rossi was asked for assistance. Emiliano is a highly respected winemaker, who also assists winery Pratello in northern Veneto. Otherwise, all important tasks are performed by the Mottura family itself.

The Mottura estate is located in Tuglie, a small town in the southern part of the Salento peninsula. The building is still in its original state, a beautiful farmhouse from the late 19th century in Baroque style, whose cellars hide the secrets of an old family villa. Here the wines mature slowly in oak barrels and barriques (225 liters) to develop the aromas, colors and atmospheres of the land.
