Stefano Amerighi Syrah 'Apice' Bio 2016

This Syrah Apice has a beautiful ruby red color. In the nose, it offers spicy aromas of red fruits, plums, cherries and aromatic Mediterranean spices and balsamic. On the palate, it is powerfully rich and intense with soft tannins supported by good freshness. The result is a flower-driven fruity wine with a strong structure but also plenty of ripe juice to make it a treat. This wine has an impressively open and friendly character with a complex lingering finish.
The Apice comes from grapes aged "on top" of the 'Canonici vineyard. Aged two and a half years in bottle, Apice is only produced in vintage years Stefano considers exceptional, and therefore this wine represents their "family silver."
  • About Stefano Amerighi

Stefano Amerighi's wines were born from a desire to produce a great syrah through the application of family agricultural traditions, passion present, knowledge of the wine world and the practice of biodynamics. To achieve this goal, Stefano Amerighi purchased vineyards in Chiuso di Cortona, called Poggiobello di Farneta.

A climatic and geological survey conducted on the farm confirmed that this is the suitable terroir for planting syrah vines, personally and carefully selected in Valle del Rodano by Stefano himself. The grapes are grown according to biodynamic agriculture. Work in the vineyard follows the lunar and planetary phases. This is done to bring healthy bunches to maturity and allow a vinification that is completely free of corrective and chemical products. After removing the stalks, part of the grapes is kept whole and another part is lightly foot-pressed and manually placed in small concrete vats without the use of pumps. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, with natural yeasts, without sulfur and controlled temperature. Winemaking takes 14 months in wooden and cement barrels and the wine is bottled without filtration or stabilization. The syrah's are among the best in Italy.
