About the vineyard

Pazo do Mar has traditionally been a family business with its own vineyards, doing business with existing bodegas. In 2002, the decision was made to start for itself. The now 30-year-old company continued as its own bodega. It already owned parcels of vineyard around its own bodega. Several years ago, another nine acres of vineyard were added. The wines of Monterrei are an outlier in Galicia. In Monterrei, the climate is slightly drier and warmer. Only the godello grape is used here, which gives the wines a very unique and idiosyncratic character. The grape is harvested from vineyards at an altitude of 300 meters on a subsoil of granite. The vineyards are located just north of the Portuguese border. The grapes are picked by hand and then the wine ferments at low temperature, without the use of wood. The climate and fermentation on the fruit produce a lively and juicy wine, with a high drink-through factor.
