Mont d'Oraàs Villa Bys 2018

Villa Bys has a very intense dark red color. In the aroma aromas of red fruits, cherries and plums. On the palate, a structured and powerful Béarn wine with great concentration. A wine with finesse and a long lingering finish. This cuvée Villa Bys is one of the best wines of the southwestern terroirs. This wine has a high potential for aging.
In the heart of the oldest parcels of Domaine Mont d'Oraás, the grape bunches are selected to make this great red wine from the Béarn. It is the blend of 40% Tannat, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot that characterizes this wine. This unique terroir, with a high density of 6,500 vines/ha and a yield limited to 35 hl/ha, enhances both the quality of the juices and that of the aromas. A harvest here is done manually when the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, followed by three successive sortings. The wine matures in the barrel cellar for up to 18 months.
  • About Mont d'Oraàs

The vineyard at domaine Mont d'Oraàs covers 5 hectares and stretches over a hillside facing south/southwest, 80% planted with the grape varieties tannat, cabernet-franc, cabernet-sauvignon and the rest with merlot and manseng. The wines are aged in the cellar against the hill with a barrel cellar dug into the hillside.

On the hillside, overlooking the Pyrenees, on a patch of gravel and clay terraces, Mont d'Oraàs is an exceptional terroir! The vineyards are worthy of a great wine: 6/8 buds per vine. The grapes are harvested manually at optimum ripeness. Three successive sortings follow in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Cluster by cluster, berry by berry, the grapes must be perfectly healthy before entering the barrels. The barrel room consists of small barrels of ten, twenty, thirty and forty hectoliters, for vinification by plot and by grape variety. The Mont d ́Oraàs estate is located in the Pyrenees near Bys (municipality of Oraàs) at the top of a hill surrounded by a beautiful forest of ancient oaks. The estate also offers stunning views of the Pyrenees and the Basque Country. Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees and a few hundred kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyard enjoys a maritime climate with mountain influences. Béarn's red wines are made primarily from tannat, an indigenous grape variety prized for its hardiness, strong color and richness of tannins. It is combined with cabernet- franc and cabernet-sauvignon, which will temper the harshness and give it its suppleness. Enough to give the AOC Béarn color and demonstrate that the Béarnais terroir can compete with the best.
