Mehofer Grüner Veltliner 'Neudegg' Bio 2021

Grüner Veltliner Neudegg hasfresh citrus notes, combined with light notes of paprika and hay, leaving a typical grüner veltliner impression. On the palate, it has a soft texture of butter, buscuit and white bread, which express the long aging on the lees, creating a rather full, long-lasting finish.

Neudegg is not only the northernmost village in the Wagram wine region, but is also located among the higher-altitude villages. The hand-picked and carefully selected grapes grow on deep loess soils, about 320 m above sea level. Together with a particularly calm climate and very little intervention in the cellar, Neudegg wines are charming, elegant and have a lot to say. And, of course, they are all organic.
  • About Mehofer

In 1709, the first generation of Mehofer bought the "Neudeggerhof" estate. The family has lived and worked in the Wagram wine region for 10 generations, well over 300 years. They concentrate on typical Austrian grape varieties such as grüner and roter veltliner. Since 1992, all wines have been certified organic. Considering the past and working towards the future, the goal is to preserve this valuable heritage and thus secure a sustainable future for the next generation.

100% of Weingut Mehofer's heating system is provided by wood chips made from trees from their own forests. The wine bottles Mehofer uses are often lighter than others, enabling them to reduce glass usage
and reduce CO2 emissions during glass production and transportation of the wines. All of the barrels used to ferment and store these wines are produced by Austrian barrel makers and made from wood from their own or nearby forests.

Mehofer is experimenting with growing new grape varieties in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture to better understand the potential of the terroir, and if positive results are achieved, the grapes are used for new wines.

The small town of Neudegg is the northernmost town in the Wagram wine region and is about 320m above sea level. The wines from this area have a lot of finesse and depth.
