López de Haro Rioja Seleccion de 30 Barricas 2010

Seleccion de 30 barricas has a deep red cherry color in the glass. On the nose, the wine is intense and complex. Nuances of black fruit from a ripe and full-bodied grape stand out and mingle with smoky notes from the oak barrel along with spicy and cocoa notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with strong character, as well as fleshy and elegant, with mature tannins that provide a tasty lingering finish.
Rioja Seleccion de 30 barricas is made from tempranillo and garnacha, sourced from old vineyards with very low production. The tempranillo vineyards are locatedin the area of Sonsierra (la Rioja) and the Graciano vineyards at high altitude in the area of Cárdenas.The grapes are picked by hand in October. From receiving the grapes in the cellar, they work by gravity. That means no use of pumps, which is better for the grapes and ultimately the wine. Fermentation takes place in open barrels of 500 liters made of French oak, where dipping takes place daily according to a traditional process. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels, where aging then takes place. The wine matures for over 30 months in new French oak barrels. The wine then rests in bottle for another 3 years.

    Located in the historic village of San Vincente de la Sonsierra, Bodega López de Haro rises above a "sea of vineyards" flanked by the Ebro and Sierra de Toloño rivers. The bodega is excavated in its entirety on the side of a mountain. The selection of wines is named after Don Diego López de Haro, founder of the city of Bilbao. Hacienda López de Haro is a series of wines that combines the simplicity and elegance of great classics with current consumer tastes. The terroir in this region is of calcareous clay. This results in a wine with refined freshness and a pleasing length and finish.

    All the wines at Bodega Hacienda López de Haro have something in common: grapes from the best wine regions of the D.O. Rioja, the dedication with which the winemakers work the vineyard and the affection the winemakers devote to the preparation of each wine. From receiving the grapes at the bodega, they work only with gravity for moving the wine. That means no use of pumps, which is better for the grapes and ultimately better for the wine.
