Jas d'Esclans Rouge Cru Classé Bio 2019

This Rouge Cru Classé has a beautiful deep garnet color. In the nose, it is complex, combining aromas of black fruit, cassis, elderberry and spicy notes with licorice and cocoa. On the palate, it is harmonious with ripe tannins that cover the entire palette well. It is a mouthful with a long finish filled with mocha, coffee and a touch of bay leaf and finishing with notes of cherry, tobacco and licorice. It is a wine to enjoy now or feel free to keep for another 5 years.
  • About Jas d'Esclans

Since ancient times, the valley of Esclans was famous for its grapes, which the wealthy Roman citizens greatly appreciated. Domaine du Jas d'Esclans is mentioned in archives as early as the 13th century.

The domain's activities evolved over the centuries. At first there were purely sheep fields and the name Jas therefore refers to the sheep's summer pastures. Silk culture was also important and the mulberry trees used to feed the silkworms are still the witnesses to this. Viticulture is the only activity today.

The vineyard, with an average age of more than thirty years, is planted on red clay soil, sandstone and Permian-era shale, which gives JAS D'ESCLANS wine intensity, elegance and character. The permeable, stony soil, poor in humus and well-drained, is particularly suited to producing quality wines. In addition, the estate benefits from its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea (12 km, the sea can be seen from the property) and from the mistral wind cushioned by the nearby hills. Constant exposure to regular sunlight ensures optimal maturity of grapes.

The estate has always prioritized traditional growing methods and has benefited from organic certification by Ecocert since 1990. The winery is one of 18 wineries in Provence to hold the title of Cru Classé.
