Giribaldi Dolcetto d'Alba Alma 2020

Dolcetto d'Alba Calupo is an intense ruby red wine with typical purple reflections in the glass. In the nose, the wine is fragrant with hints of violets and ripe red fruit. On the palate it has much more fruit enveloping in softness with a dry, fresh and clean finish. Very versatile alongside dishes from meat starters to roast red meat, excellent with agnolotti al plin a classic dish from Piedmont.
This Dolcetto comes from the Schiena del Crottino vineyard in the municipality of Rodello. It is hilly terrain that lies at an altitude of 460 meters above zeenivaeu facing south, south-west. The terroir consists of marl-limestone-rich soil, positioned on a rock layer that allows an ideal ripening of the grapes.
The "organic vineyard" of 4.85 hectares consists exclusively of Dolcetto grapes of Italian origin. The age of the vines is 33 years. Vinification begins with a 9-day maceration followed by fermentation at a constant and controlled temperature. After resting in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for 2 months in 30-hectolitre wooden barrels. It then rests in bottle for another 6 months.
  • About the Winery

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, Azienda Agricola Mario Giribaldi has been around for three generations. It is truly a family business, one big family of ten people who every day, proud of their land, share the passion for their own work in the vineyards.

Mario speaking: "The quality of the grape that arrives at our winery during harvest is fundamental: from spring to autumn, it is the climate that sets the rules. All we can do is follow the weather and decide what to do in the vineyard to give our vines the maximum attention and care and make sure the buds grow as well as possible. The work in the cellar is very traditional, the use of modern technology helps us maintain the high quality of the grapes." So the family works organically because it fits into their philosophy and not to follow a market trend.

They started growing grapes organically in 2001 and obtained their first certification in 2004. This makes them one of the first organic wine producers. At the time, the word "organic" was used in the wrong context. When making organic wine, they also talk about the use of sulfites. In certified organic wines, a reduced sulfite content is guaranteed. It is now clear that this chemical has been abused in the past and that one can easily have a sulfite level below 100 mg/l without any risk to the maturation and longevity of the wine.
