Château Vessière Philippe de Vessière Rouge Bio 2018

Both atypical and complex, this wine is the pride of Château Vessière. Its color is garnet red. It has complex, rich aromas of tobacco, blueberry jam, blackberries, black pepper, licorice, cocoa and coffee. The surprising flavors reveal all the power and character of the fantastic terroir ofCostières de Nîmes. This wine has a fruity character, is supple and very aromatic. This wine goes particularly well with venison in sauce and poultry such as pheasant and wild duck breast.
This wine is a blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, from clay and gravel soils. The grapes are picked at night after which they are destemmed and placed in cement vats.A special feature of this cuvée is a long maceration of several weeks, including 10 days of post-fermentation maceration, which gives the wine a complex and rich aroma. The wine is then aged in 2-year-old oak barrels. This wine will continue to develop for 7 to 10 years.
  • About Château Vessière

Château Vessière, a family estate, is located in the heart of the Costières de Nîmes in the far south of the Rhone Valley. The Château owns 65 hectares of vineyard. Located at the gates of the Camargue, the estate enjoys exceptional terroir and climate. This magnificent property belonged to Mademoiselle Lucie de Vessière, who became Teulon's wife. The estate has since been passed from generation to generation.

In 1975, Philippe Teulon took over after studying oenology at Montpellier's Faculty of Sciences. The first bottling took place in 1978 but the wine was only consumed privately. It was not until 1979 that the wine was marketed in France and abroad.

Philippe was able to pass on his passion to his son Vincent, who in turn went on to study oenology at Montpellier and then put these studies into practice in Napa Valley, California.

Since 2007, Vincent and his wife Lucie have continued the family history. Together they have developed new working techniques; on the one hand by converting the estate to organic and later biodynamic and on the other by taking on the commercial activities of the company. Currently the couple lives at the Château with their two children to combine family life and demanding work.

Philippe is still present at the estate every day and works closely with Vincent to develop fine and elegant organic wines, for which they receive numerous awards every year.

Costières de Nîmes, a region with character.
The AOC Costières de Nîmes expresses the unique character of a terroir of this part in the Rhône Valley and perfectly illustrates all the characteristics of its "novelty". Located on a large terrace of pebbles deposited by the Rhône and Durance rivers, it is the southernmost of the Rhône's vineyards. The gravelly alluvium composed of red clay and rolled pebbles promotes convection. The climate is characterized by very sunny summers, dry but interrupted by irregular rain showers. It is thus of the Mediterranean type but undergoes a real maritime influence. This specific climatology of Costières deeply characterizes the wines of the "appellation" and constitutes an exceptional asset for producing authentic wines.
