Brigaldara Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2017

Amarone Classico is bright red in color. The clean aromas of red cherries and berries are lifted by a floral touch. Sweet on entry with a nice sweet and soft mouthfeel, then slightly bitter with remarkable tannins to accompany the vibrant red berry aromas. Finishes classically dry and with a touch of alcohol-derived warmth. This focused, energetic wine is delicious now, but will only get better with aging.

The grapes used to produce Amarone have been best exposed to the sun and the skin thinnest. The careful selection of grapes in the vineyard and the strict management of the drying process are of extraordinary importance for this wine. The grapes are left to dry for about 120 days and then vinified. Amarone Classico follows the traditional production method and uses large wooden barrels that are able to evolve the wine over the approximately 3 years of aging.

  • About the vineyard

The name Brigaldara first appeared in a deed of 1260. The Cesari family bought the house and land in 1929, the cultivation of vines and olive trees was alternated with orchards and cereals. From 1979 they focused entirely on viticulture, first selling grapes and from 1991 making their own wine. We asked Stefano why the Ripasso is the only one with a different label, because it is truly amazing! He replied: every Ripasso is a missed opportunity for selling an Amarone! So another label. With the arrival of vintage 2014 he abandoned this and bowed his head for unity, the Ripasso thus received t the same label as the entire series. Meanwhile, his Amarone gets 3 glasses with some regularity in the Gambero Rosso, again in 2015! The Riserva has only been made for a couple of years, if you have tasted this one from 2007, you cannot go back, such extreme length and depth in a wine you rarely see. After the 2007 and the 2009 there will be no Riserva for the time being, maybe 2012 but it may not see the light of day for another 2 years.
