These now almost 45-year-old 'Alte Reben' have very deep roots and produce less fruit than younger vines, which provides more concentration and minerality in the wine. Because their roots are deep and widely branched, there is a constant, though limited, supply of water and nutrients. As a result, these old vines produce a balanced consistent quality.

The old vines date back to the period of land consolidation in Bopparder Hamm in the early 1970s. With an age of around 45 years, yields have dropped considerably, but the wines from these old vineyards are all the more intense in aroma and flavor. Old vines have extensive, fine roots, making them able to withstand dry periods in the slate

Old vines produce only very small and aromatic grapes, giving the wine its distinctive aroma of pineapple, peach and citrus. In addition, a wonderful mineral fullness, powerful and long on the palate. Just perfectly balanced!
