Mont d'Oraàs Hountas 2018

Hountas has a ruby red color. The aroma of the wine is fine with aromas of fresh ink, herbs, blueberries, black cherries, chocolate and violets. On the palate, the wine is supple and juicy, then structured on a spicy finish of licorice and cocoa. A wine with lots of character!
The Béarn terroir is represented in this typical red Béarn wine. This cuvée is a blend of 50% tannat and 50% cabernet franc. The vines have a high density of 6,500 vines/ha, a low yield of 45 hl/ha, this combined with the clay-limestone soil on a piece of gravel terrace makes this terroir wine perfect. This wine from the southwest with a bright red color is characterized by its power and length on the palate.
  • About Mont d'Oraàs

The vineyard of domaine Mont d'Oraàs covers 5 hectares and stretches over a hillside facing south/southwest, 80% planted with the grape varieties tannat, cabernet-franc, cabernet-sauvignon and the rest with merlot and manseng. The wines are aged in the cellar against the hill with a barrel cellar dug into the hillside.

On the hillside, overlooking the Pyrenees, on a patch of gravel and clay terraces, Mont d'Oraàs is an exceptional terroir! The vineyards are worthy of a great wine: 6/8 buds per vine. The grapes are harvested manually at optimum ripeness. Three successive sortings follow in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Cluster by cluster, berry by berry, the grapes must be perfectly healthy before entering the barrels. The barrel room consists of small barrels of ten, twenty, thirty and forty hectoliters, for vinification by plot and by grape variety. The Mont d ́Oraàs estate is located in the Pyrenees near Bys (municipality of Oraàs) at the top of a hill surrounded by a beautiful forest of ancient oaks. The estate also offers stunning views of the Pyrenees and the Basque Country. Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees and a few hundred kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyard enjoys a maritime climate with mountain influences. Béarn's red wines are made primarily from tannat, an indigenous grape variety prized for its hardiness, strong color and richness of tannins. It is combined with cabernet- franc and cabernet-sauvignon, which will temper the harshness and give it its suppleness. Enough to give the AOC Béarn color and demonstrate that the Béarnais terroir can compete with the best.
