Since the 2016 vintage, this wine is now made from 100% Merlot. Previously it held the AOC Côtes de Bordeaux, but that was without winemaker Thierry Valette who wanted to free himself from the classicism of the Bordeaux region. His desire is to make wines he loves and this is the case with this easy to drink and enjoyable wine. Fruity, with juicy tannins, full of spirit. A generous flight of cherries and blackberries with a floral and peppery bouquet. A wine of pleasure that can be enjoyed as an aperitif with charcuterie, seasoned lamb skewers, whole chicken or pork.
Asteria limestone is predominant in Puy Arnaud (100% of the plots in the municipality of Belvès). They bring a lot of finesse, freshness and minerality to the grapes and ensure that a bouquet worthy of "great terroirs" (flowers, herbs, truffles) develops gradually over the first 10 years in the bottle. The plots in St Genes de Castillon are partly on a mixture of asteria limestone / Castillon limestone and partly on tuff. The latter terroirs give more tannic strength with an aromatic expression of red fruit and black fruit. 85% of the surfaces are on limestone plateaus, 15% on hills and at the foot of the hills. The plateau edges are not very thick, between the outcrops of the rock in certain places there is a maximum depth of 50 cm. The exposures are interesting and have a maximum sunshine duration from sunrise to sunset. The majority of the plots receive the rays of the rising sun which, according to the most recent studies, seem to provide a quality of light that is very beneficial to the vines (especially in times of global warming). There is also good ventilation on these plateaus, which are between 90 and 100 meters above sea level.
